In Memory Of...

Before you go on any further I would like to tell you a story about a little boy. I don't know where the story came from but it it is pretty cool. Once upon a time there was a little boy who was walking along the beach. He saw all of these starfish laying on the beach and he started picking them up and throwing them all back into the ocean. He kept doing this until a man came up to him and said "Little boy, why are you throwing all of those starfish back into the ocean?" and the boy responded "I am trying to save their lives." The man then said "Why? it won't make a difference." and to this the little boy said "It makes a difference to every one I save."
If you are thinking about adopting a ex-racer please do not let this page change your mind. Keep investigating the ex-racers. You will know when your greyhound finds you. They do choose you. Just look into their eyes and you will see theie heart, their soul, and their love for you. My mom has been very partial to fawn greyhounds. She only has one fawn. She didn't care for brindles, we had three. We have these greyhounds because they chose us. They are each unique in their own way.
My mom wrote this poem when we lost Leo. She is a lot like me (or maybe I am like her), but she finds songs to suit her feeling and tries to write poetry. (I don't even attempt to write poetry). Some of them are not so great, but this one says a lot. This is our wish for all greyhounds. Leo died last year, and we still feel the pain of losing a member of our family. If you have lost a loved one and would like to put their name on our page please Email us with the information.

For Leo

'Twas the night before morning and all through the land
The Race Tracks were dark and people could understand.
No more abuse or atracities to these graceful hounds
No more starving or shooting or electrocuting sounds
No more hangings in Spain as their final reward
No more citrus groves to be used as a greyhound morgue.
No more scarring of flesh or labs paying cash
No more greyhound racing at last!

Greyhound racing was brought to a end
Thoughout the U.S. and other lands.
These graceful hounds now grace our homes
And there they know, they're not alone.
Now they run and play for fun
And don't have to worry when the running is done.
They can sleep on our couches and also our beds
And not worry or wonder if they'll be fed.

We will love each one like our kids
We'll greet them each day with a pat or a kiss.
They will bring us joy throughout their lives
We'll always be thankful for each one that survived.
And we will shed tears for those who did die.
Each one of these hounds have lived through hell
It's now time for each of us to stand up and tell.
We want to end their suffering today
And closing the tracks is the only way.
If we want these greyhounds to see
A better day.

For Stevie's Family

I have a message for you today

From a very special greyhound I met one day

His name is Stevie, he was large and black

His nature was gentle, he wouldn't fight back

Stevie's brown eyes were filled with sparkle and shine

His demeanor was special and very kind.

He had ears that stood straight up

I'd only seen ears like that on a pup.

He always stayed close while on his lead

At one time 40 miles per hour he could speed.

Stevie was saved from a greyhound track

And not once did he ever look back.

He sends his love and wants to say

Thanks to the people who brought him this way.

He had a whole new life ahead of him

"I'm a winner in life!" he said with a grin.

"I've got a new home, no more small crates

I've got a big yard with a fence and gates.

I get to play with toys and run

I nap on pillows when I am done.

I've got humans to love me everyday

And this message is for my family who loved me and prayed

I am sorry I left you all so soon

Please think of me on the rise of each moon

Mom, you did everything within your power

To keep me safe every hour

I knew you'd know when the time was right

My eyes were clouded-no longer bright.

I know you did what was best for me

Thats why God sent you to me.

I'm going to a better place to run and play

Together again, we'll be one day.

Until that time, life will go on

Please don't mourn for me too long.

You have so much love to give

You can help another greyhound live.

You'll always be a part of me

Thanks for your love you shared with me."

For Bob

You were our bright and shining star
Always anxious and ready to go in the car
You greeted everyone with a smile
That smile was as wide as a mile.
You were a color I never wanted - a brindle
But into our lives you did swindle.
It hurts each morning to not see your face
Your happy, wiggly body in all your grace.
We knew it was time to let you go
The hurt and pain in your eyes did show.
We allowed you to go on to the bridge
And with our love, we did pledge
You will be made whole again
And your new life will begin
You'll be with your brothers and sisters
And you you - They'll have kisses
You will remind them, and they, you
You are all loved and will be missed greatly too.
You will keep each other company and tell stories of your lives
Of how each of you came to us and enriched our earthly lives.
You will all be perfect in every way
You'll spend your days running and in play
You will be warmed by the sun
And your days filled with fun.
We will join you all one day
And together forever, we will stay.
Until that time, we'll be here on earth
And we'll continue to fight to end the hurt.
We'll continue to foster the ex-racing greys
Until racing has seen their very last days.
Others will come to live with us too
It doesn't mean we've forgotten you.
You are loved and we were blessed
Losing you is putting us to the test.
There will always be a void in our hearts
But we will continue to give others a brand new start.
It's what you would have wanted
Saving the greys that are the hunted.
We'll love each one that makes it here
Their road and future will be clear
To find a family to love them true
Just as we have our love for you.
